Obituary

Adolph passed away at the South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, Nebraska on Sunday, June 26, 2011. The family will receive friends during visitation on Wednesday from 3 PM until 5 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner. Rosary/wake services will be 7 PM, Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church in Wagner. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 30, 2011 at St. John Catholic Church with burial in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner. Memorials will be directed to St. John Catholic Church or Hospice and Home Healthcare of Saunders County, NE.

Adolph "Duffy" Payer was born April 12, 1924 in rural Wagner, SD, the son of Joseph and Anna (Melmer) Payer. He passed away at the South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, Nebraska on Sunday, June 26, 2011.

Adolph attended rural school at Ree #63, south of Wagner. He married Marian Bradley on June 14, 1948 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner. Together they farmed south of Wagner and Dante, along with sons Dennis and Wayne. Due to failing health, Marian and Adolph moved to Wahoo, NE in September of 2006. Marian passed away on July 26, 2008.

Adolph was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, the Wagner School Board and was a 4-H leader for many years.

Adolph will be remembered for his enjoyment of Angus cattle and watching the local races.

Thankful for having shared his life are his sons: Dennis (Joan) Payer of Wagner; Gary (Janice) Payer of Mobridge; David (Brenda) Payer of Yukon, OK; and Joseph (Marie) Payer of Bellevue, NE; daughter, Pamela (Kal) Lausterer of Wahoo, NE; daughter-in-law, Jane Payer of Des Moines, IA; 13 loving grandchildren: Kara, Clay, Casey, Liberty, Jovan, Nicholas, Buffy, Lindsay, Travis, Brandon, Patrick, Sarah and Chris; 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Ann (Herb) Spry; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Adolph was preceded in death by his wife, Marian (Bradley) Payer; son, Wayne Payer in September of 1982; parents, Joseph and Anna Payer; three brothers: Laddie, Wes and one in infancy; and four sisters: Dorothy Hron, Martha Cockerham, and two who died in infancy.
