Alice Duncanson, 95 of Wagner
Her funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner, with burial in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 4 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
Alice Eleanor Duncanson was born July 5, 1914 in Charles Mix County, SD, the daughter of Edward and Belle (Jones) Kuca. She died Monday, January 4, 2010 at the Wagner Good Samaritan Society. Alice attained the age of 95 years, five months and 30 days.
Alice graduated from Wagner High School in 1931. She graduated from Dakota State at Madison in 1932 with a teacher's certificate. Alice taught in Lawrence and Lone Tree Township before her marriage.
Alice married Russell Duncanson at Canton, SD on June 1, 1936. They farmed south of Wagner. They moved into Wagner in 1946 but Russell continued to farm until retiring in 1979.
Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church where she had been active in the UMW, Morning Circle, and served as secretary/treasurer of Sunday School. She was one of the founding members of the Charles Mix County Historical Society. Alice served on the Wagner Library board, city and county election boards, ZCBJ Cemetery board and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Armour Star #64. Alice also enjoyed publishing News and Views for the Wagner Good Samaritan Center with Troy Nell Brookman.
Alice will be remembered for her love of reading, painting, volunteer work and collecting things, especially bells, dolls and barbed wire.
Thankful for sharing her life are her two daughters: Deanna Andersh of Heron Lake, MN and Connie Hamm of Marquette, MI; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Grace Rados of Wagner; and sister-in-law, Alice Martin of Madison, WI.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Russell on October 30, 1999; parents; sons-in-law, Norman Andersh and Harlyn Hamm; brother, Richard Kuca; and three sisters: Olive Buus, Wilma Hennies and Edith Goodien.
