Obituary

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield, with burial in the Emanuel Cemetery, rural Springfield. Visitation will be 12 noon to 6 pm Wednesday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield, followed by a 6 pm prayer service.

Annie Odens, daughter of Peter and Dora (Vander Lei) Dykstra, was born June 20, 1919 at Running Water, SD. She died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Annie attained the age of 90 years, six months and 22 days.

Annie attended school at Running Water through the eighth grade. She spent her younger years working for others in their homes.

Annie married Hessel Odens on October 1, 1941 at rural Springfield. They lived west of Springfield near Perkins and then in 1946, they moved to a farm northwest of Springfield. Together they farmed and cared for their five children. Hessel passed away on January 31, 1989. Annie continued to live on the farm until 1999, when she moved into Avon.

Annie was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield, having joined in 1940. She also was a former member of Willing Workers.

Annie enjoyed spending time collecting stamps, saving recipes, growing flowers, especially tulips and iris, and bird watching. She had a real knack for growing African Violets. Annie spent her last years in her own home. She enjoyed anyone who came to visit and especially Sunday coffee time with family.

Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Karen Wesselink of Hull, IA; Marlene Wittmeier of Avon; Jean Kolecka and husband Tom of Avon; Harold and wife Jeanne of Wakefield, NE; and Donald and wife Coreen of Springfield; 9 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers: Jayson and Darwin, both of Avon; four sisters: Jessie Boersma of Springfield; Marie Vander Veen of Wakefield, NE; Mabel Ludens and husband Robert of Sioux Falls; and Ruth Olivier of Corsica; and many nieces and nephews.

Annie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons-in-law: Delmar Wesselink and Eugene Wittmeier; and three brothers: Raymond, Donald and Andrew.
