Arthur "Artie" Ehresmann, 81, Tripp

Funeral services for Artie will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Friedens Reformed United Church of Christ in Tripp. Viewing will start an hour earlier at 9:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delmont cemetery.

Arthur Edward "Artie" Ehresmann was born March 2, 1936 to Henry and Laura (Fry) Ehresmann in Dupree, South Dakota. He died Monday, January 8, at Avera St. Benedict Health Center in Parkinson. He attained the age of 81 years.

Artie's family moved to the Charles Mix county in 1940, where he grew up on the family farm near Delmont. He attended Weber school through the 6th grade when family circumstances forced him into farming. He worked on the family farm through his younger years until he joined the South Dakota National Guard in 1956 with lifelong friend Dale Weisser. Artie received training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Artie served eight years as a water purification specialist in the National Guard until his honorable discharge in 1964.

On November 5, 1983, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Zahinley in Delmont. Together they farmed in the Wagner area until moving into Delmont in May 1990. Artie then worked as a janitor at the Delmont school for nine years and then worked at ALCO Discount Store in Wagner for nine years until health conditions forced him to retire. Artie was a member of the American Legion Post 249, Delmont and a member of the Friedens Reformed United Church of Christ in Tripp.

Artie is remembered for his jolly, fun-loving personality and the world-wide friendships he created through his love of ham radios.

Artie is survived by two younger siblings, sister, Irene (Ehresmann) Burnette of Sierra Vista, Arizona and brother, Kenneth (Linda) Ehresmann of Bellevue, Nebraska; one nephew, Barry (Lorinda) Burnette of Sierra Vista, Arizona; and one great-niece Rebecca Burnette of Sierra Vista, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Phyllis.
