Bennie Wallace Zoss, 84, of Armour
Bennie died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at his daughter's home in Armour. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church, rural Armour. Burial is in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Armour, with military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner with the family present, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM.
Bennie Wallace Zoss was born June 30, 1929 at Manson, IA, the son of Ben and Augusta Rika (Vosberg) Zoss. He died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at his daughter's home in Armour.
Bennie and his family moved to a farm southwest of Armour in 1942. He was drafted into the US Marine Corps and served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
Bennie engaged in farming from 1953 until moving to Illinois where he worked at the Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago, IL as a civil engineer. He was united in marriage to Valerie Velma Ree on March 18, 1959 in Lake Andes. To this union 10 children were born. Bennie and family returned to South Dakota in 1977, where he worked at Commercial Asphalt in Mitchell until his retirement in 1999.
Bennie enjoyed attending all polka festivals, air shows and taking long drives in the country. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and grandkids. He was a life member of VFW Post #2750 in Mitchell.
Thankful for having shared his life are his daughters: Beverly (Victor) Drapeau of Rapid City, Brenda Moring of Armour, Kirby Zoss of Denver, CO, Norma Zoss of Armour, Susan (Kevin) Nelson of Platte, Cindy (Dave) Majerus of Armour; sons: Roger and Christopher Zoss, both of Rapid City, and Dennis Zoss of Platte; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; three brothers: Bennis (Donna) Zoss of Ames, IA, Larry Zoss of Elk Point and Jimmy (Jeanne) Zoss of Pueblo, CO; sister, LeAnn Schuldt of Sioux City, IA; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Zoss of Yankton and Karen Zoss of Armour; and many nieces and nephews.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Valerie, daughter Angela; granddaughter Brianne Drapeau; five brothers: Marvin, Gary, Ivan "Bill", Norman, Charles and Jerry; sister Shirley Misner; and brother-in-law, Bill.
