Bert Cozad, 104, of, Wagner

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM, Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home in Wagner. Funeral Mass has been postponed until 2 PM, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Marty. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner, with military honors.

Bert Cozad was born on the river bottom south of Marty on November 20, 1916 to Bert and Mary (Kranig) Cozad. He died December 21, 2020 at the Wagner Good Samaritan Center.

Bert attended rural school through the eighth grade. He later attained his GED and then attended business school in Grand Island, NE.

Bert married Edna Nohr on October 16, 1940 in Hartington, Nebraska. He joined the Army in 1945 and served overseas in Guam. While in the Army he received the Asiatic-Pacific service medal. After his discharge from the service they farmed on the river bottom. In April 1953 they were blessed with a daughter and son through adoption

Bert and Edna were very involved with several projects accomplished by the VFW, where he served as Commander for several years.  He loved dancing, socializing and playing cards. He lost his loving wife in June 1979.  After moving to town he continued to enjoy trips to the farm to cut wood, deliver watermelons to his grandkids and great grandkids and garden. In his retirement, Bert enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas with his special friend Irene Slaba.

Thankful for having shared his life are his children: Mary Jo (Tom) Kuhlman and Rodney Cozad, both of Wagner; his grandchildren: Kelly (Ben) Schroeder of Nolensville, TN; Kim (Jay) Kafka, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Kuhlman and Jason (Lindsey) Kuhlman all of Wagner, SD; 21 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; along with many nieces and nephews.

Bert was preceded in death by his wife and siblings: Gerald Cozad, Marie Cournoyer, Margaret Donner, Ada Bendtsen and Nel Beeson; infant great granddaughter, Immaculee Kuhlman and special friend Irene Slaba.
