Beverly Gau, 83, of Wagner

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Monday, November 10, 2014 at St. John Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial is in St. John Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner. Rosary/Wake services are 7 PM Sunday at the church.

Beverly Ann Gau, daughter of Emil and Freda (Hufsmith) Meis, was born June 19, 1931 in Geddes, SD. She died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Avera Brady Home in Mitchell. Beverly attained the age of 83 years, four months and 18 days.

Bev attended St. Ann's Catholic School in Geddes.

Bev married Leo Gau on February 15, 1955 in Geddes. Four children were blessed to this union. They lived in Wagner the rest of their lives, Bev working at the Wagner School and Leo owning the 76 gas station on South Main. Leo died February 14, 1971. Bev lived independently until a recent fall caused her to be cared for in Avera Sioux Falls and then again in Avera Brady Home in Mitchell.

Bev was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner. Among Bev's many enjoyments were the children of Wagner Community School where she had worked for 30 plus years. After retirement she was still involved as a volunteer Grandma for the Wagner Elementary School as well a very strong supporter of all high school and amateur sports including baseball, basketball and football. Her voice of support for the local children will be remembered by everyone, especially the coaches and officials. She was a member of various community groups during her life in Wagner and was the Citizen of the year for the Wagner community in 1987.

Thankful for having shared her life are sons: Mark and wife Sheila of Pickstown; Curt and wife Jonilyn of Alexandria and Craig and wife Renee` of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Darrell Meis of Wagner; sister, Marcia Mesman and husband Don of Platte; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Bev was preceded in death by her husband Leo (1971); son Brad (1974); as well as her father Emil (1964) and mother Freda (1983).
