Beverly Wright, 69, of Lake Andes
Bev died Sunday, September 13, 2015 at her home in Lake Andes. Funeral services were 10 am, Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Cedar Presbyterian Church, rural Pickstown. Burial was in the church cemetery. Wake services began Tuesday at the White Swan Community Center in Lake Andes. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
Beverly Irving Wright was born on November 20,1953 and entered the spirit world on September 13, 2015. She was born at the Wagner Indian Health Hospital. She attended Todd County Boarding School and later went to Andes Central High School and graduated in 1975.
Bev met Everdale Song Hawk and to that union had three children: Jeffery Louis Irving, Darla Jean Irving and Dayla Jayne (Irving) Picotte. She met her companion and soul mate Elgin Mathew Wright and they joined roads December 1977. She had 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending her free time with her children and grandchildren.
She worked at the Fort Randall Casino, Andes Central and the Yankton Sioux Tribe. She was well known for being an advocate for her people which she enjoyed. She was a protector of water rights, human rights and fought for the wakanjeya (children). One of her most proud memories was helping to initiate the future dialysis clinic. Her along with the late Cora Flying Hawk.
She knew her creator father God. She was a diverse being. She was baptized at the Cedar Presbyterian church in Pickstown, SD and attended church at the Wesleyan Chapel in Lake Andes, SD. Bev was also a traditional being...attending ceremony and sweats.
