Carmen Hahn, 63, of Wagner
Carmen 'Irving' Louise (Smejkal) Hahn of Wagner, SD was blessed with comfort care on her 63rd birthday and passed away peacefully at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls on August 15th, 2022. Everyone is invited to Carmen's Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 12 Noon at the All Tribes Fellowship in Wagner. Visitation and luncheon following.
Carmen was born on August 14th, 1959 in Sioux City, Iowa to Joseph and Myrtle Smejkal (Thornton). She grew up on a farm south of Wagner, the youngest of five kids.
Carmen was known for her generosity and for the excellent and compassionate care she provided as a CNA and Restorative Therapist for 14 years at the Wagner Good Samaritan Center. She loved those elderly people and they loved her, a testament to her warmth and giving nature.
A free-spirit with a heart of gold, Carmen loved music, riding motorcycles by the river bottom, gardening and taking photos. She was an extra in the Clint Eastwood movie Every Which Way But Loose , worked on the Strontia Springs Dam in the Rocky Mountains, saw the Doobie Brothers at the Red Rocks Amphitheater and crossed the Golden Gate Bridge hanging out the passenger window. She loved people, had many dear friends and will be remembered for her laugh and love for adventure.
Carmen was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Myrtle (Thornton) Smejkal, great grandparents Ray and Verna (Chase) Thornton, granddaughter Anjel Leah and cousin Renee Frick.
She is survived by her children: Desarae Smejkal, Christa Hahn and Noah Leines; grandchildren: Christian, Destiny, Skyler, Lexis, Ashlynn, Jasper & Louis; great grandson Axel; siblings: Annette, Larry, Keith & Cheryl; previous husband Randy Hahn; Tim Leines; and many loving family and life-long friends.
