Carol Mae Morrow, 87, of Wagner

Carol Mae Morrow, age 87, died at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner, SD on November 29, 2021. She was born to Charles and Louise (Brodsky) Hollenbeck on April 13, 1934.

Carol Mae led an interesting and varied life. She attended rural school through eighth grade. She attended high school in Ravinia and gave the commencement address and graduated valedictorian in 1952. Carol married Tom Morrow in June of 1953. They were just short of celebrating 58 years of marriage when Tom passed on May 18, 2011.

After graduating, her first job was with Commercial State Bank, which she started in Lake Andes and also helped out at the Wagner branch. She also worked at Crebbs General Store. She and Tom began to farm and had a family which kept her very busy at home for a short time. She enjoyed water skiing and riding on a saucer on the Missouri River. As a person always wanting new challenges and growth, she once again entered the workforce at the Wagner bowling alley. From there she worked at the Wagner meat locker until she decided to get some additional education. She commuted to Springfield College which allowed her to get a job with the Federal Government Corps of Engineers at Fort Randall Dam in Pickstown, SD.

After suffering from a severe stroke in her early 40's and after a long and difficult recovery period, she was able to pursue the true love of her life - dancing. She and her husband Tom were well known in all kinds of dance circles for over 100 miles from their home in Wagner. They participated in Main Stream and Plus Square Dancing, Polka and Polka Hop, Ballroom Dancing, Country Western, and even Line Dancing. Carol Mae was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Moose Lodge and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees.

Carol Mae is survived by her four children: Patrick and wife Mary Lou of Marty, SD, Michael and wife Lori of Worthington, MN, Loren of Brighton, CO and Todd of Flandreau, SD; 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Carol Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister Phyllis Holec and her daughter-in-law Cheryl Morrow.
