Carrie Voigt was born February 2, 1920 on a farm near Avon, SD, to E.O.F. and Katie (TerVeer) Voigt. She died peacefully Friday, February 24, 2017 at the age of 97 years and 22 days.
Carrie attended Mawhinney Country School where she completed the eighth grade. She was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church of Avon in 1933. Carrie worked at various grocery stores and café's in Avon, Mitchell and Chamberlain, until she began work as the office manager at Northwestern Public Service in Avon. During her 25 years at Northwestern, Carrie always took pride in creating the window display during the Christmas season.
Carrie enjoyed embroidery and quilting with her sister Margaret. She baked wonderful pies and kuchen. She loved going to auctions and rummage sales and was always on the lookout for a bargain. Following retirement, she enjoyed traveling as well as visiting friends and family.
Carrie will be best remembered for her selfless love and dedication to her family. She was a constant support for her siblings by running errands, banking, getting groceries, etc. Carrie was especially vital to her siblings Abe, George and Esther enabling them to live independently. Even after going to the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall, she continued to help manage their affairs.
Thankful for having shared her life are brother Vert and his wife Doris of Avon, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents E.O.F. and Katie (TerVeer) Voigt and siblings Clara and husband Peter DeBoer; Johanna and her husband Emil Weber; Margaret and her husband Russell Hubner; Adolph Voigt; John and his wife Luella Voigt; George Voigt; Esther Voigt; half-brother Eldon Voigt; half-sister Goldie Lubbers; and niece Delilia Weber.
