Catherine M. Antelope, 83 of Wagner
Her funeral service was 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Cedar Presbyterian Church, rural Pickstown, with burial in the church cemetery. Wake services were held Thursday night at the church. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of the arrangements.
Catherine Antelope, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner.
Catherine was born July 26, 1930 to Milton Powers, Jr. and Vera LaMonte at home in Greenwood, Sd. She attended school in Marty, SD up until the 8th grade. On April 6, 1962 she married Forest James "Jim" Antelope and to this union they were blessed with three children, Darrell (deceased) Mary and Gary, who joined big sister, Joyce.
Catherine worked at the Fort Randall Dam as a a waitress and she also worked at S. Mary's hospital in Pierre, The Pierre Indian Learning Center and Wahpeton, ND Indian School as a dietician. After that she worked at the Wagner IHS as a dietician until her retirement. She then decided that retirement wasn't in her blood and took a position as a cook at the Yankton Sioux Treatment Center (Canku Teca) for numerous years.
Eventually, she tried retirement again but continued on with her life helping people. Catherine loved to spend time leisurely driving around, visiting family and friends. She loved rummages, sewing, going to auctions and second hand stores and attending horse sales and rodeo's. She was an active member of the Cedar Presbyterian Church and the Dakota Presbytery.
Catherine leaves to mourn her three children: Joyce (Louie) Powers Golus; Mary (Nick) Antelope-Stotz and Gary Antelope; her special bumming buddies, Grandma Geraldine (Geri) and Auntie Diane along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Vera, husband Forest James Antelope, siblings: Glen Powers, Anthony Powers, Carol Young, Raymond (Muff) Powers, Winifred Warner, Inez Powers, Leon (Red) Kirkie, Sr., Gilbert, Eddie and Darrel Antelope and great grandchildren: Khailer, Kayne and three unnamed babies.
