Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, March 19, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Avon, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, with the family present.

Charles Edmond Voigt was born near Avon, SD on February 24, 1912 to Gustav and Marie (Reder) Voigt. He died Friday March 12, 2010 a the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall, SD. Charles attained the age of 98 years and 17 days.

At an early age, Charles accepted Christ as his Savior. upon confession of his faith, he was baptized by immersion February 26, 1933 by Rev. Benjamin Schlipf and became a member of the First Baptist Church.

Charles spent most of his young life in the eastern part of the United States. Following graduation from high school in Monongahela, PA, her returned to South Dakota, living and working with the Arthur Voigt family.

Charles married Mildred Hebner on October 10, 1947, with Rev. Peter Geissler officiating. Together they farmed until retirement in 1984, when they moved into Avon. Mildred died January 25, 2008.

Besides farming, Charles enjoyed sports, music, history, gardening and church activities. He was a youth leader, Sunday School Superintendent, choir member, Deacon and a contributor to the Centennial History of the First Baptist Church.

Thankful for having shared his life are his son Philip and wife Louella of Luverne, MN; two grandchildren: Leah and husband Leland Potter of Madison, WI; and Daniel and wife Blair of Pittsburg, PA; a half-sister Theresa Crookham and husband Norman; a step brother Thomas Leach; and nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, Mark; his parents; a sister Marie; and two nephews.
