Clifford F. Horner, 89 of Wagner

His funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner, with burial in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner Tuesday from 12 noon to 5 pm, followed by a 7:00 pm prayer service at the church.

Clifford Franklin Horner, son of William D. and Nellie (Ordway) Horner, was born September 29, 1918 at Springfield, SD. He died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, IA. Clifford attained the age of 89 years, nine months and six days.

Clifford attended country school for eight years at the Lone Tree Township.

Clifford married Dorothy M. Brooks on June 7, 1944 at her parents' home in Lake Andes. Two sons were born to their union. They farmed northeast of Wagner and moved into Wagner on November 25,1968. Clifford worked for Jespersen Oil Co. until 1975 and then for Terminal Grain until 1984, when he retired. Dorothy died September 23, 2006. Clifford suffered from Macular Degeneration and then on February 25, 2008, was diagnosed with ALS.

Clifford was the second oldest member of the United Methodist Church, joining in 1933. He also was a lifetime member of the IOOF Lodge.

Clifford will be remembered for his enjoyment of playing his harmonica and accordion and card playing.

Thankful for having shared his life are his sons: Dennis and wife, Karen of Sioux Falls, and Kenneth and wife, Jean of Estherville, IA; five grandchildren: Daren (Tina) Horner.Deona (Justin) Spicer, Sonja (Bryan) Gifford, Kelly (Jessica) Horner and Jeremy (Shana) Horner; 11 great grandchildren: Macy, Kody and Abby Horner, Ayden Spicer, Tyler, Marissa, Hunter and Easton Gifford, Kaden, Hudsen and Griffin Horner; two sisters-in-law: Inez Horner of Wagner and Cathryne Burrell of Libby, MT; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Clifford was preceded in death by his wife; parents; four brothers: Ray, Charles, Glenn and Willis; and one sister, Alice Thomas.
