Clifford R. Jerke, 83 of Wagner
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. Burial will be in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner, with military honors. Visitation will be at the church with family present Friday from 5 to 7, followed by a prayer service.
Clifford Raymond Jerke, son of Otto and Pearl (Uecker) Jerke was born August 21, 1929 on a farm near Delmont. He passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 with his family at his side at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner.
Cliff attended rural schools in the south Delmont and Avon areas. He entered the U.S. Army on April 4, 1947 and served until September of 1948. In January of 1950, Cliff enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Guam during the Korean Conflict with the 54th Pacific Air Squadron. He was honorably discharged in September of 1953.
Cliff married Velda Peters on September 23, 1953 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. A son, Terry was blessed to their union. They moved to Stratford, WI, where they were dairy farmers for 45 years. In 2007, they retired to Wagner. Cliff's favorite past time was fishing with his son, Terry and friends.
Cliff was a 40 year member of the VFW in Stratford, WI and Wagner, SD. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Stratford and later transferred that membership to St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. Cliff was on the Township Board of Supervisors for the town of Eau Pleine, WI. He also was a member of the National County and State Holstein Breeders for many years.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Velda of Wagner; Son, Terry and wife Bridget of Gillette, WY; two brothers: Glen and wife Verna of Dante and Gary and wife Susan of Gillette, WY; five sisters: Delores Peters of Wagner, Clarice and husband EJ Burke of Crofton, NE, Lois and husband Ron Willman of Yankton, Wilma Estes of Sioux Falls, and Donna and husband Ron Bruna of Tabor; brother-in-law, Norman Gibson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Gibson; two nephews and one niece.
