Crystal Pirner, beloved mommy, grandma, sister, and friend died on August 8, 2026 after a brief battle with Stage 4 cancer. She passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side at her daughter’s home in Elkton, SD. No services will be held at this time.

Crystal Joy Bettelyoun was born on September 15, 1959 in Wagner, SD to Annamae Costello and Gary Bettelyoun. She was the second born of four children. Her family lived in Rapid City until the flood occurred, and then her family moved back to Wagner, SD. She attended and graduated high school from Wagner Community School.

After school, she married Randy Pirner, and together they had three children – Derek James, Grayson Alan, and Tiffani Dawn. She loved her children and would do anything for them. She was also blessed with two grandchildren, Felicity Joy and Macen Patrick.

Crystal worked different jobs over the years starting at the Wagner nursing home and Brookings Hospital. In Webster, SD, she operated an in-home daycare and proudly worked at Mike’s Jack & Jill grocery store. She also worked at the Elk Point-Jefferson School District. Several of the children she provided care for still call her their second mom.

Crystal loved watching her sons compete in wrestling and would be the one of the loudest voices you would hear in the crowd cheering them on. She was an avid movie and TV series viewer and loved to discuss the plot and themes with anyone who had watched a show she recently viewed. She also loved classic rock music, especially Fleetwood Mac and INXS, and would always jam out with her children. She loved thrift shopping and had a huge collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia.

Crystal had the biggest heart for all animals, including her own beloved cat, Simon Lee, along with her “grand-animals" which include Keya, Uki, Pepper, Bella, and Daisy.

Crystal is survived by her family that will always love and miss her moving forward including her son Derek (Maria), Oakland, CA, son Grayson (Molly) North Sioux City, SD, daughter Tiffani (Rod) and their children, Felicity and Macen, Elkton, SD, sister Cindy (Michael) Harford, Wagner, SD, sister Paula (Alan) Hrdlicka, Rapid City, SD, and brother Francis (Barbara) Bettelyoun, Spencer, SD, along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father and grandparents on both sides.

Any memorials can be made to her children and grandchildren.
