Obituary

Darlene A. Hatwan, 82 of Pickstown

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Pickstown Community Church in Pickstown, SD. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 8 at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner. Burial will be held at a later date.

Darlene A. Hatwan, daughter of Roy and Ester (Lawn) Salisbury, was born June 13, 1932 at Sioux City, IA. She died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at her daughter Karen Olson's home in Pickstown under hospice care.

Darlene married Donald Seifert, Sr. in 1948. Together they raised four children. They lived in several countries, including India, Spain and Saudi Arabia and traveled the world extensively together. Donald passed away in 1984. After Donald's passing, Darlene moved to California where she lived for ten years.

In 1994, Darlene visited Pickstown for an all-class high school reunion where she re-established a friendship with Roland Hatwan. Two days after returning to California, Roland showed up at her front door and proposed marriage. Darlene and Roland were married in 1994 and returned to Pickstown, where she lived for the rest of her life. Roland passed away in 2003.

Darlene loved to travel when she was younger and loved and enjoyed life in Pickstown in her later years. Her joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, which between the Seifert and Hatwan families kept her busy and happy.

Thankful for having shared her life are her children: James (Valerie) Seifert of Gainesville, GA; Donald Jr. (Kathy) Seifert of Columbia, SC; Robert (Michael Mcintosh) Seifert of Cathedral City, CA; and Christina Seifert of Wagner, SD; Step children: Pat (Lynn) Hatwan of Lincoln, NE; Jeanie (Randy) Larson of Sargent Bluff, NE; Dale (Susan) Hatwan of Rochester, WA; Lori (Danny) Slaba of Sioux Falls, SD; Karen (Waldon) Olson of Pickstown, SD; and Kathy (Dean) Svatos of Lake Andes, SD; step daughter-in-law Maryl Hatwan of Mitchell, SD; 28 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and many friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husbands Don Seifert and Roland Hatwan; one grandson: James Adkins; one granddaughter Katrina Adkins; one step grandson Jason Slaba; great grandson Nolan H. Seifert; great granddaughter Rayne Hatwan; two brothers: Glenn and Kenneth Salisbury; sister Deanna Salisbury; and nephew Dirk Salisbury.
