Dorothea Dunmire Peterson, 99, of Springfield

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30, followed by funeral services at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Springfield Community Bible Church in Springfield. Burial is in the Milltown Cemetery in Milltown. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothea Lucille Dunmire Peterson was born September 4, 1918, the daughter of Ellis and Lillas (Adkins) Thompson at Parkston, SD. She died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall.

Dorothea was baptized and joined the United Bretheren Church in Milltown, SD on April 24, 1938. She graduated from Parkston High School in 1937. Her mother died in 1939 and Dorothea then helped take care of her younger brothers and sisters. Dorothea married Ralph Dunmire on June 17, 1939. To this union three daughters were born, Lillas, Linda and Rachel.

Ralph and Dorothea farmed near Parkston until moving to Springfield in 1962. Ralph passed away on March 18, 1980. She married Marvin Peterson on June 24, 1987. Marvin passed away July 6, 1994.

Dorothea worked at USD/S and St. Mary's Girls Indian School in Springfield. She obtained dietary certificates from Mt. Marty College and USD/S.

Dorothea served as president of the Hutchinson Co. Extension Club. She taught Sunday School and Bible School at the Milltown United Bretheren Church and taught religion classes at St. Mary's Girls Indian School in Springfield.

Dorothea will be remembered for her love of quilting and flower gardening.

Thankful for having shared her life are her daughters, Linda (Bob) Moe of Springfield and Rachel (Frank) Barevich of Richmond Hill, GA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Nellie Hoffman-Green of Parkston; two step-brothers, Larry (Kay) Thompson of Freemont, NE and Jim Thompson of Parkston; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Dunmire; second husband Marvin Peterson; daughter Lillas and her husband Wayne Heil; parents; step-mother Ella Thompson; two sisters, Viola Thompson and Vivian Hauser-Solay; and two brothers, Warren and Dale Thompson.
