Dorothy Rysavy, 92, of Wagner
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial is in the parish cemetery, rural Wagner. Rosary/Wake services are 7:30 PM, Monday at the church. Visitation is Monday from noon until 5:30 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
Dorothy Joan Rysavy was born January 19, 1917, southwest of Dante, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Lillian (Detlefsen) Walters. She died Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner. Dorothy attained the age of 92 years, seven months and nine days.
Dorothy attended school through the eighth grade south of Wagner. She later attended a School of Cosmetology in Minneapolis, MN.
Dorothy married Joseph Rysavy at St. John's in Wagner on April 2, 1940. Together they farmed south of Wagner for many years. They moved to Yankton, where Dorothy worked in food service at Mt. Marty College for 14 years, working several years as the head cook. They retired in 1983 and returned to the farm.
Dorothy was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Wagner where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, served on the Altar Society and was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary for many years.
Dorothy will be remembered for her enjoyment of bowling, gardening and cooking.
Thankful for having shared her life are her three sons: Robert and wife Brenda, of Sioux Falls, Richard and wife Ann, of Dante and Joe "Chub" and wife Carol, of Wagner; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one brother, Donald and wife Eileen Walters of Rapid City; brother-in-law, Vernon Fox of Coronado Island, CA; two sisters-in-law: Irene Rysavy and Marie Thornton, both of Wagner; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Joe on October 15, 2004, a granddaughter, Michelle Rysavy, parents, two brothers: Bill and Joe Walters and a sister, Ione Fox.
