Dorothy died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Mass will be 1:30 PM, Monday, October 4, 2010 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lake Andes. Burial will be in St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery, Lake Andes. Visitation will be Sunday from 10 AM until 4 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner. Rosary/Wake services will be 7 PM, Sunday at the church.
Dorothy Jane Vacek was born September 1, 1928 on a farm near Tyndall, SD, the daughter of William and Lillian (Rothschadl) Bambas. She died September 29, 2010 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Dorothy attained the age of 82 years and 28 days.
Dorothy graduated from Tyndall High School. She married Edward Vacek on June 10, 1947 at Tyndall, SD. Six children were blessed to their union. Dorothy worked as a nutrition site manager in Lake Andes, providing meals for the elderly.
Dorothy was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, St. Mark's Women's Altar Society, Women's Catholic Order of Forresters, Pickstown Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
Dorothy will be remembered for her love of giving "gag" gifts, playing cards with the Dante Women's Card Club and others, making caramel rolls and having coffee with friends. She enjoyed attending Lake Andes sporting events, especially the volleyball matches.
Thankful for having shared her life are her husband, Edward Vacek of Pickstown; six children and five grandchildren: Robert and wife Jana Vacek of Sioux Falls and their children, Travis and Tyler Vacek; Patty and husband Mark Arneson of Arlington, TX and their daughter, Stephanie Decker; Linda Vacek of Memphis, TN; Rita Vacek of Spanway, WA and her children, J.R. and Auston Parker; Richard Vacek of Yankton; and Sherrie Vacek of Prescott, AZ; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen and husband Steve Koupal of Wagner.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Ray and Leo Bambas.
