Obituary

A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at at the United Methodist Church, Wagner, SD, with Masonic Rites. Interment following services will be at the ZCBJ Cemetery, Wagner, SD, with military honors. Visitation will be Friday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner from 4 to 7 pm.

Douglas Wayne Kaberna passed away on October 6, 2015 at the age of 76 years at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born at Wagner, SD, on September 30, 1939 to Vincent D. and Marlene E. Kaberna. Douglas was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith in the First United Methodist Church in Wagner, SD. He attended country school for the first three grades one mile from the family farm. The rest of his education was obtained in the Wagner Public Schools and he graduated from high school in May, 1957. Following graduation he went into farming with his dad. In 1962, he purchased his own land near Wagner and farmed until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the SD National Guard from 1957 through 1964 and a member of the American Legion. He was a life member of Arcania Lodge #97 A.F. & A.M., Armour, SD; a life member of the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, Valley of Yankton, Orient of SD and a life member of El Riad Shriners, Sioux Falls, SD.

Douglas was an avid reader and was most interested in astronomy, history, geography, science and religion. He also enjoyed listening to country western music. He enjoyed traveling, in recent years, to the Black Hills, Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, Canada and Alaska.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and William Hoffman of Parkston, SD; his nieces, Adrienne (Scott) Freng of Laramie, WY and Sara Clayton of Wagner, SD and his nephews Aaron (Shelly) Clayton of Tea, SD; David Kaberna of Elk Point, SD and Damon (Tanya) Kaberna of Wapella, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Warren Kaberna.
