Douglas J. Kafka, 71

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held 2 PM, Saturday, August 29, 2026 at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Cody, NE. 

Douglas J. Kafka was born on May 24, 1955 to William and Anna (Beeson) Kafka in Wagner, SD. He died Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD after an extended illness.

After graduating from high school Doug lived in South Dakota and Nebraska working as a farmer, rancher, and bar tender, finishing his working years at CSS Seed Co. in Cody, NE.

Survivors include his children: Dawn (Frank) Bures along with their children Saydae, Lilyana, and Harrison, Molly Kafka and her partner Diana along with their children Ollie and Poe; his siblings: Kathy (Paul) Schwader, Tim (Bev) Kafka, Theresa Mohr, Mary (Jim) Lukkes, Jean (Mike) Miller, and Susan Shutt; 4 nieces: Nicole, Anna, Kelly, and Mandy; 7 nephews: Matt, Justin, Jacob, Clay, Ford, Dyllon, and Wyatt; as well as blended family members, step mom: Delores Kafka, and step brothers: David (Diane) Crumrine, Doug (Sara) Crumrine, and Daryl (Denise) Crumrine,

Doug was preceded in death by his parents William and Anna Kafka as well as a brother-in-law Jamie Mohr.
