Services were held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Bartlett, NE. Burial was in the Bartlett Cemetery, Bartlett, NE with Military Honors by Bartlett American Legion Post #107.
Duane Lyle Kruntorad, son of Lyle Frank and Ruby Josephine (Havel) Kruntorad, was born March 22, 1948 at Norfolk, NE. He died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at his home in Wagner under hospice care and after a valiant fight with leukemia. Duane died peacefully surrounded by his family. He had attained the age of 65 years, nine months and three days.
Duane graduated from Wheeler County High School in Bartlett, NE. He entered the US Navy on March 19, 1967 and served in Vietnam where he earned several medals and ribbons. Duane was an AO3 Aviation Ordnance Man 3rd Class. He was honorably discharged on February 1, 1971.
Duane married Dixie Kay Field on May 15, 1971 at the United Methodist Church in Bartlett, NE. Three children were blessed to their union.
Duane worked from 1971 to 1973 at Montgomery Wards in Lincoln, NE and Wheeler County Maintenance in Bartlett, NE from 1973 to 1978. The family moved to Norfolk in 1978 and he was a UPS Driver from 1978 to 2006. Duane retired in 2006 and he and Dixie moved to Wagner, SD. He was diagnosed with leukemia on September 18, 2011.
Duane was a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters #554. He also was a member of VFW Post 164 in Norfolk and the American Legion Post #214 for over 20 years in Ewing, NE.
Duane will be remembered as a "people person". He enjoyed water sports and doing landscaping, woodworking and lawn work.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Dixie of Wagner; daughter Jean Renee Burr and fiancee Steve Dahmen of Sioux Falls; two sons: Joseph Duane and wife Korina Kristine of Pierce, NE and Jon Paul and wife Michelle of Sioux Falls; his mother, Ruby of Neligh, NE; seven grandchildren: Christian A. Beery, Thomas A. Burr III, Jeremiah Joseph Kruntorad, Michael Allen Kruntorad, Peyton Duane Kruntorad, Gaberial Lee Kruntorad, and Evelynn Dixie Kruntorad; one step grandson, Kaden Michael Taylor; brother, Larry Lee Kruntorad of Ewing, NE; and many friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his father, Lyle; grandparents; parents-in-law, Walt and Mary Field; and his sister, Lavonne Barlow and her husband Jack and their son.
