Obituary

Edna B. Uecker, 87 of Wagner

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 am Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Burial will be in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner Tuesday from 12 noon to 5 pm, followed by a 7:00 pm prayer service at the church.

Edna B. Uecker, daughter of Henry and Rosa (Trickler) Wiechmann, was born September 18, 1921 at Wagner, SD. She died Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner.

Edna graduated from Ravinia High School in 1938. She earned her B.S. in Education at Southern State Teachers College in Springfield and the University of South Dakota. Edna taught school for 24 years in California, Ravinia, Wagner and Vermillion. Edna married Elmer C. Herbert in California in 1943. Three children were born to their union. She later married James Uecker on August 4, 1969 in Vermillion. James died May 30, 2003. Due to failing health, Edna became a resident of the Wagner Good Samaritan Society on December 13, 2007.

Edna was a member of the United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Edna will be remembered for her exceptional ability to sew, crochet and knit, and her enjoyment of doing ceramics and crafts.

Thankful for having shared her life are her twin daughters: Anita Raye Payer and husband, Wally of Wagner and Bonita Kaye Asper of Sioux Falls; daughter-in-law, Vicki Herbert of Chamberlain; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters: Myrtle Hollmann of Wagner and Clara Schaefer of Yankton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Edna is also survived by four step children: Phillip and wife Kathy Uecker, Richard and wife Donna Uecker, Rhonda Jordan and husband Bruce, and Paula Dorman.

Edna was preceded in death by her husbands; son Luther Gene Herbert on January 5, 2009; two brothers: Arthur and Albert Wiechmann; and two sisters: Emma Bromert and Delores, who died as an infant.
