Edward M. Cuka, 87, of Wagner
His funeral mass will be 10:30 am Saturday, October 23, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner, with burial in the parish cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, followed by a 7 PM Rosary/Wake Service at the church.
Edward M. Cuka, son of John and Mary (Kostal) Cuka, was born July 21, 1923 on a farm near Wagner. He died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner. Ed attained the age of 87 years, two months and 29 days.
Ed attended country school and graduated from Wagner High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Germany as a clerk in the Counter Intelligence Agency.
Ed married Dorothy M. Stastny on June 16, 1953 in Wagner. Five children were blessed to their union.
Ed farmed northwest of Wagner until his health forced him to retire in 1966. He then worked for Kocer Implement until he retired in 1987. Not being one to "just sit", he helped at Fousek Grain until 1992, when he became a full time babysitter for his youngest grandchild. Ed could tell you the words of several children's movies word for word! Ed became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society on April 23, 2009.
Ed was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Greer Post #11 and Veterans of Foreign War. He served as a lector at church for many years.
Ed loved to talk farming and machinery. He also loved to travel, square dance, polka, listen to music, hunt pheasants and play cards. Ed could fix almost anything. He was a very good cook and loved to barbecue. Ed will loving be remembered by his grandchildren for taking the fish off their hooks during Huck Finn Days.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife; two sons: Bob and friend Deb and Jim and Denise (Efta); daughter, Angie Fousek and husband Sam, all of Wagner; four grandchildren: Steven Fousek and wife Kasi (Brown), Tracy Fousek, Nick Fousek, all of Wagner, and Bridget Fousek of Bloomington, MN; two brothers: Harry and Leonard and wife, Helen, all of Wagner.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Tom and Donald; and four brothers: Laddie, Carl, Albin and John.
