Elaine Jeannette Fryda, daughter of Hubert and Emma "Dolly" (Einrem) Lange, was born July 6, 1926 on Norwegian Hill in rural Springfield, SD. She died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall after a brief battle with cancer. Elaine attained the age of 84 years, seven months and seven days.

Elaine's mother died when she was 18 months old. Her uncle Peter David Einrem adopted her and he and his mother, Johanna raised Elaine. She was confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in rural Springfield in June of 1943.

Elaine attended country school in Bon Homme County and graduated from Springfield High School in 1945. She attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield for two years and earned a teaching certificate. Elaine taught in numerous country schools in Bon Homme County for many years and also was a substitute teacher for several years. She worked as a youth counselor at Youth Services International in Springfield. Elaine was blessed to be able to "babysit" her grandchildren when they were young.

Elaine married Dale E. Fryda on December 30, 1946 at the Springfield Congregational Church by Rev. Cushing. In March of 1947, they moved to the Bixby farm south of Tyndall and lived there for 12 years. Later they bought a farm southwest of Springfield where they lived until 1991, when they moved into Springfield. Elaine lovingly cared for her husband during his illness until his death on April 24, 2010. She entered the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall on February 4, 2011 due to failing health from bladder cancer.

Elaine and her husband were charter members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Springfield. She was also a member of the Highland Card Club.

Elaine will be remembered for her love of reading books, playing cards and "bumming" with those she loved, especially Doris Fiedler.

Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Dale J. and wife Becky of Springfield; Gregory D. and Paul R., both of Oakland Park, FL; two grandchildren whom she loved dearly: David Dale of Riverdale, ND and Lisa Renee of Denver, CO; sister Maxine Fryda and husband Jim of Tyndall; sisters-in-law: Leona Fryda of Tyndall, Doris Fryda of Oxford, NE, Hazel Kaufman of Yankton and Evelyn Coleman and husband Robert of Springfield; and dear friend Doris Fiedler of Springfield.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandparents; and brothers-in-law: Lewis Fryda, Don Fryda and Charles "Chuck" Kaufman.
