Elmo Eddy, 92, of Wagner
Elmo died Monday, October 13, 2014 at his home in Wagner. Funeral services are 10 AM, Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the National Guard Armory in Wagner. Burial is in the Holy Fellowship Episcopal Cemetery, rural Greenwood, with military honors. Wake services will begin Wednesday at the VFW in Wagner and be moved to the National Guard Armory on Friday. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
Elmo Eldridge Eddy Jr. was born February 2, 1922 in Greenwood, SD to Elmo and Edna (Arrow) Eddy.
He attended school at Flandreau Indian School where he met Jeanette Smith. They were married May 23, 1942 and from that union 10 children were born.
As a young man he worked for Henry Food Farms, roads and the Fort Randall Dam. He joined the military September 1941, was a sergeant in the US Army Air Corps, Night Fighter Squadron Unit 425, 9th Air Corps, World War II. His battles and campaigns include Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received a good conduct medal unit citation ribbon, European African Middle Eastern ribbon, and five battle stars. His military profession was an Aircraft Engine Mechanic.
After World War II he went to work for airline companies. Due to his career he was allowed to travel, he and his wife Jeannette, granddaughters Tasha Eddy and Cheryl "Bashkeen" Ancisco hit the pow wow trails.
After his retirement he moved back to Wagner, South Dakota. He loved to hunt, drive around, tell jokes and stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons: Russell, Eugene, Paul, Johnny; daughters: Len and Margaret; brothers: Clifford and Melvin; sisters: Ethel, Ida and Peggy.
Elmo is survived by his wife, Jeannette; son, Robert; daughters: Barbara, Annette and Pauline; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
