Obituary

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Burial will be in the church cemetery, rural Avon, with military honors. Visitation will be at the church an hour prior to the service. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home of Avon is assisting with the arrangements.

Ervin Emil Brandt, son of the late Angelus and Lydia (Hahn) Brandt, was born April 3, 1926 in Avon, SD. He passed away February 8, 2017 at the Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD. Ervin attained the age of 90 years, 10 months and six days.

Ervin attended Avon Public School and graduated from Avon High School. He then joined the U.S. Army and served during WWII.

Ervin married Lena Laurose Healey in Sioux City, Iowa on September 5, 1958. Two sons were blessed to their union. The family moved to Maryland where Ervin was employed as an electrical engineer with WETA (Washington Educational Television Association), Channel 26. In addition to his service to public television, he enjoyed "tinkering" with and repairing electronics, as well as spending time with his family.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife of 58 years, Lena of Columbia, MD; his sons: Timothy Brandt and wife Annette of Hanover, MD and Thomas Brandt and wife Eva of Ellicott City, MD; one brother James Brandt and wife Nadine of St. Louis, MO; three sisters: Leatta Spomer of St. Paul, MN, Elsie Goehring of Sioux Falls, and Arlene Dykstra of Avon; brother-in-law, Hank Moerer of Minneapolis, MN; his grandchildren: Dawn Brandt and husband, Steve Chicca and Justin Brandt and wife Michelle, all of Charleston, SC, and Colleen and Kelly Brandt of Ellicott City; one great-grandson, Theodore "Theo" Brandt; and many nieces and nephews.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: John, Frederick (Betty), Eddie (Laura), Arthur and Rudolph (Joyce); three sisters: Louise (Ray) Jurrens, Emma (Harm) Wheelhouse, and Leona Moerer; and four brothers-in-law: Weldon Priebe, Norm Spomer, Elton Goehring and Louis Dykstra.
