Esther Brigitta Wormsbecker, daughter of George and Mary (Uttecht) Schwaderer, was born May 30, 1926 in rural Delmont. She died peacefully on January 19, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Home in Canton, South Dakota. Esther attained the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 20 days.
Esther married Otto Wormsbecker on August 31,1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. After Otto and Esther made their home on the farm homestead, she was baptized into the Danzig Baptist Church in rural Avon on January 1, 1950.
Esther was a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. These roles are what truly filled her life with joy. Esther loved the farm and her role in the work there. She especially enjoyed her garden, flowers, animals, sewing, and music. As a member of Danzig, for many years she shared her love of Jesus with the little children during Sunday School and was part of the Ladies Aide.
Esther and Otto retired from farming in 1975 and spent their winters in Florida returning in the spring to enjoy the beauty South Dakota had to offer them. They made many lasting friendships in both states. The time spent in Florida and South Dakota provided many wonderful memories with their children and their grandchildren. Esther and Otto loved to travel and spent much of their time seeing the sights of the world and many places in the United States. Each trip they brought home another spoon to remember their time traveling together. During their retirement years Esther continued to share her love for music, painting, and made each of her grandchildren a special quilt. Her artistic specialty in her painting were landscapes and nature scenes. Her talents and love for life were evident in these masterpieces that the family holds dear to their hearts.
After leaving her home in Avon, she resided with her daughter, Rhonda, in Harrisburg. In 2017 Esther moved to the Good Samaritan Home in Canton, SD where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children: the late Llewellyn (Janet) Wormsbecker of Avon, Terry (Donna) Wormsbecker of Avon, Rhonda (Mike) Drefs of Harrisburg, South Dakota; grandchildren: Christie (Eddie) Wobig of Canova, SD, Chad (Erin) Wormsbecker of Prior Lake, MN, Lisa (Jesse) Hines of Eagan, MN, Troy (Elizabeth) Wormsbecker of University Place, WA, Andrea Wormsbecker of Sioux Falls, SD , Bridget (Patrick) Ebert of Sioux Falls, SD, Tiffany (Shane) Lindberg of Ida Grove, IA, Jeremy (Sara) Brech of Tea, SD, and Chelsea Brech of Sioux Falls, SD; as well as 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, on July 10, 2004, her parents, sisters, brothers, and her son, Llewellyn Wormsbecker, and infant grandson, Coledon Wobig.
