Evelyn D. Odens, 88, of Springfield
Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield, with burial in the Emmanuel Cemetery, rural Springfield. Visitation is at the church on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM, with family present from 5 to 7 PM. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Dorothy Odens, daughter of Pier G. and Anna C. (Mesman) DeRoos, was bornNovember 10, 1927 on a farm near Springfield. She died peacefully, with the family at her side, Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tripp. Evelyn attained the age of 88 years, three months and 18 days.
Evelyn attended Kirkwood Country School through the eighth grade. She married Isaac Odens on March 24, 1950 at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in rural Springfield. Four daughters were blessed to their union. Together they farmed and raised their family west of Springfield. Ike died unexpectedly April 9, 1973. Evelyn later moved into Springfield where she worked at CR Industries from 1980 to 1990. She also worked for Green Thumb at the Senior Citizen Center in Springfield for many years.
Evelyn was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield. She played piano for many different musical events. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, embroidering and crocheting. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Thankful for having shared her life are her daughters: Ilene Muller and husband Mike of Avon; Lyla Sigmund and husband Edwin of Mitchell; Jenean Wynia and husband Dennis of Springfield; and Mavis Amundson and husband Ken of Hartford; ten grandchildren: Jason (Shawna) Muller; Bret (fiance' Katy Hard) Muller; Bridgette (fiance' Samson Metzger) Muller; Robin (fiance' Aaron Kinzler) Muller; Tyler (Rachael) Hakl; Hailey (Zachary Semmler) Hakl; Jake (Jamie) Wynia; Anne Ritter; Jesse (Michelle) Sigmund; Melissa (Jonathan) Klein; 17 great grandchildren: Aidan and Addison Muller, Colten Muller, Keegan McAdaragh, Kaydence and Kyzleigh Metzger, Rylan Beeson; Harper Meyer and Kambrey Semmler; Bailey and Isaac Wynia; Autumn and Alivia Ritter, Mitchell Hogan, Kaleb, Mya and Eliana Klein; one brother, Gerald (Wilma) DeRoos of Grandbury, TX; one sister, Ruth Berndt of Avon; her in-laws: Marjorie (Harold) Ludens and Beverly Jelsma, all of Springfield; Alice Odens of Chamberlain; and Gary (Sandy) Odens of Avon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and in-laws: Harven Berndt; Phil (Eva) Odens; Winifred (Bernard) Kastein; Robert Jelsma; and Alvin Odens.
