Frances Marie (Cimpl) Nedved

Frances M. (Cimpl) Nedved, age 89, of Wagner died Monday, March 5, 2012.

Mass will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante with a burial at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Wagner. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 1:00-5:00 at Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner followed by a 7:00 pm rosary/wake at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante.

Frances Marie (Cimpl) Nedved was born November 1, 1922 on the homestead farm 5 miles south of Dante, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Frances (Pilny) Cimpl. Surrounded by family, she died on March 5, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner. She attained the age of 89 years, 4 months, 4 days.

Frances was born and raised on the family farm and attended Rouse Country School through the 8th grade. She attended one year of high school at Mount Marty in Yankton, South Dakota.

In her later teens, she worked various jobs in Yankton at a grocery store, five and dime and a meat market. "Franny" as she was called by her Yankton girlfriends, enjoyed going to dances in Utica and Tabor. Frances was united in marriage to Leonard G. Nedved of Yankton, on September 3, 1946 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante.

Frances was a very hard-working wife and mother, helping Leonard with field work and chores. Together they farmed for 38 years until his death in 1989. She continued to live on the farm until she moved to the Good Samaritan Society in June 2008.

Frances was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, and the VFW Auxiliary.

Frances, affectionately known as "Fonda", will be remembered for her love of gardening and baking kolaches, rohlicky, and houska. She was always close with her siblings, many of whom she had daily contact. They remember her Sunday duck and dumpling dinners with fried onions and sauerkraut. Fonda always had a coin purse in her car, ready to play her favorite card game "65", or more commonly known as "Count Your Cards Fonda". Even after retiring from the farm, she maintained daily interest in the farm operation, checking in as to "what are the guys doing today?"
