Frank J. Kozak, 95 of Lake Andes
Frank died Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center in Vermillion, SD. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Lake Andes. Burial will be at the parish cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the church, followed by a 7:00 pm Rosary/Wake. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of the arrangements.
Frank Joseph Kozak, son of Frank and Josephine (Volenik) Kozak, Sr., was born April 10, 1912 on a farm three miles south of Lake Andes, SD. He died Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Sanford Care Center in Vermillion. Frank attained the age of 95 years, eight months and 18 days.
Frank attended school through the eighth grade at White Swan Township #6 and then worked on a farm during the 30's. He entered the United States Army on July 3, 1942 and served until October 19,1943. Frank was awarded the Purple Heart.
Frank married Mary K. Rokusek on April 18,1939 at Yankton. They managed cafes in Wagner and Tabor and then moved to Lake Andes in the early 1940's. Frank worked for the Corp of Engineers from 1945 to 1972. His beloved, Mary, died February 18, 1999. Due to failing health, Frank entered the Sanford Care Center in Vermillion on December 28, 2005.
Frank was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Lake Andes, a 60 year member of the American Legion in Pickstown, a 60 year member of the Lake Andes VFW, a 60 year member of DAV in Sioux Falls, AARP, the Czech Heritage Preservation Society of Tabor, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He will be remembered for his enjoyment of hunting, fishing, woodworking and his gentle spirit.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Rowland of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren; Andy Crisp and Jennifer Crisp; nine great grandchildren; sister, Mary Carda of Wagner; and many relatives and friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brother, John.
