Fred Voigt, 93, of Avon

Funeral services will be 1:30 PM, Monday, July 27, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Avon. Burial is in the Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 3 PM until 7 PM, followed by a prayer service. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Milton Voigt was born at Avon, SD on November 26, 1915, the son of Fred C. and Frances (Glassner) Voigt. He died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall, SD. Fred attained the age of 93 years, seven months and 27 days.

Fred attended school through the eighth grade at Mawhinney Country School.

Fred married Olive Ridgway at Hartington, NE in 1941. He worked for Steckler Trucking for 30 years and also farmed southwest of Avon for 19 years. In 1968 they left the farm and moved into Avon. He spent eight years working at a feed lot in Nebraska before returning to Avon. He then worked for many years for the City of Avon and mowed lawns. Fred entered the Tyndall Good Samaritan Society on April 2, 2008.
Fred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee and he also served on the Rouse Country School Board.

Fred will be remembered for his love of music, playing the guitar and harmonica, working and mowing lawns.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Olive of Tyndall; three children: Ray and wife Audrey Voigt, of Avon; Donna Draskovic of Truth or Consequences, NM; and Kathy and husband Gary Frank of Avon; 15 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his son Richard in 2004, great grandson Jaden Jager, two brothers: Herbert and William "Vernie"; and three sisters: Corrine Ray, Dorothy Olson and Helen Ridgway.
