Georgine Chytka, 89, of Lake Andes
Funeral Mass will be 1:30 PM, Monday, July 16, 2018 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lake Andes. Burial is in St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery, rural Lake Andes. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 5 to 7PM, followed by Rosary/Wake services at 7 PM. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
Georgine Mary (Carda) Chytka was born January 28, 1929 on the family farm near Lake Andes, SD. She died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at her home in Lake Andes.
Georgine graduated from Ravinia High School in 1947. She then pursued a teaching degree.
On August 23, 1949 Georgine married Jerry Chytka at St. Mark's. Together they had four children. Jerry passed away December 15, 1994.
Georgine taught at many country schools and was a teacher's aide at Andes Central for several years. She then took a job at Wollman's Pharmacy and worked there until June 2, 2018.
Georgine was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and St. Mark's Catholic Daughters.
Georgine had trips of a lifetime to Prague, Czech Republic, Vienna, Austria and Rome where she enjoyed mass with Pope John Paul.
Georgine had many hobbies but fishing was her biggest passion. She holds the state walleye record, having caught a 16 pound 2 ounce walleye on November 16, 2002 below the Fort Randall Dam. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very creative and thoughtful person. Georgine spent a lot of time sewing, doing craft projects and playing games with her great grandchildren. She always took pride in her flowers.
Thankful for having shared her life are four children, Michael Chytka of Lake Andes, SD, Connie (Tom) Wipf of Carbondale, KS, David Chytka of Richmond, KY and Kathleen Chytka of Denver, CO; a sister Noreen Sweet of Nickerson, NE; seven grandchildren: Jerry Chytka, Tracey (Charles) Hopkins, Amy (Kyle) Tenasse, Justin Leasure, Thea (John) Easley, Crystal (John) Webb and Nikayla Chytka; and 11 great grandchildren.
Georgine was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Albina Carda; husband Jerry Chytka; grandchildren Jennifer and Janice Chytka; brothers Mark and Ernie Carda; and sister Germaine Kniffen.
