Gladys Slaba, 96

Gladys died Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society in Scotland. Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante. Burial is in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Wagner. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9 to 10 AM, with Rosary at 9:30 AM.

Gladys Vivian Slaba, daughter of Frank & Tillie (Sedlacek) Podzimek, was born November 20, 1929 on a farm in rural Bon Homme County. She died Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society in Scotland. Gladys attained the age of 96.

Gladys attended rural school until the 8th grade at the Choteau Creek #9. Gladys married Willam F. Slaba on September 14, 1948 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante. Three daughters were born to their union. They farmed near Tripp until 1950, then Bill began trucking and they moved to her family farm where Gladys was raised, 11 miles northeast of Wagner. She raised chickens and milked cows while on the farm. They sold their farm in 1981 and moved to their home west of Wagner. She starting working part-time at Fonder Fashion in 1987, staying through the transition to Blaha’s Bridal and retiring in 2010. They moved into an apartment in Wagner in 2011.

Gladys was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante, Dante Altar Society where she served as president for a while, the Dante Card Club from 1954 - 2016, Scotland VFW Auxiliary, and the Catholic Order of Foresters in Scotland. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing cards, gardening, as well as traveling. Gladys and Bill began traveling in 1984 and managed to see all 50 states, nine providences of Canada, and four parts of northern Mexico.

Gladys is survived by her three daughters: Bonnie Bradshaw of Garretson, Renee Willert of Chamberlain, and Jaclee Slaba of South St. Paul, MN; 4 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; as well as a special nephew Bob (Sharen) Podzimek of CA who lived with them during the summers.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Slaba on Feb. 17, 2018, her parents Frank and Tillie (Sedlacek) Podzimek; two sisters: Elsie Slaba and Hattie Krsnak; and brother Alvin Podzimek.
