Obituary

Glenn H. Jespersen, 91 of Armour and formerly of Wagner

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 16, 2011 at East Lake Andes Lutheran Church, rural Lake Andes. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner Friday from 1 pm to 6 pm.

Glenn Harold Jespersen, son of Hans and Lena (Weichmann) Jespersen, was born June 18, 1919 at Wagner. He died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour. Glenn attained the age of 91 years, nine months and 27 days.

Glenn graduated from Wagner High School and then went on to Business College in Mitchell for one year. He married Marguerite Lundberg on April 25, 1942 in rural Armour. Three children were blessed to their union.

Glenn served in the United States Army from November 16, 1942 to November 27, 1945, and participated in several of the major battles. He was one of the most decorated veterans in South Dakota.

After the service, Glenn returned to Wagner where he began Jespersen Bulk Oil and Service Station. He assisted his wife in operating a gift shop in their home. Marguerite died November 29, 1999. Due to failing health, Glenn became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Armour on November 18, 2004.

Glenn was a member of the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church, American Legion Greer Post and a charter member of the Rollie Bucholz VFW Post. He was honored as the Wagner Labor Day Parade Marshall in 1990.

Glenn will be remembered for his enjoyment of hunting pheasants and boating. He was the "handyman" that could fix most anything.

Thankful for having shared his life are his children: Terry and wife Susan of Spencer, IA, Garry and wife Deborah of Rochester, MN and Cynthia Jespersen of Pickstown; four grandchildren: Julie Culshaw, Charlie Jespersen, Jonathan Jespersen and Melissa Breck; five great grandchildren: Emma and Grace Culshaw, Hunter Jespersen, Naomi Jespersen and Bethany Jespersen; two sisters: Helen Chernotik of Wagner and Arlene Merkwan of Sioux Falls; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Jespersen of Akron, IA, Pat Lundberg of Armour; and several nieces, nephews.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite; parents; three brothers: Raymond, Elmer and Edward; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Lundberg.
