Harold Picotte, 63, of Marty
Harold died Sunday, May 2, 2021 at his home in Marty. A wake service will be held Wednesday evening at the Marty Community Center in Marty. Wake services will continue on Thursday evening at the Veteran's Building in Rosebud. Funeral services are 1 PM, Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Veteran's Building in Rosebud. Burial is in the Holy Innocents Cemetery in Parmalee. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
Harold Dean Picotte was born in California to Harold Clement Picotte and Louise Kelly. He attended Marty Indian Boarding School during his elementary years. He also attended high school at Todd County and St. Francis Indian School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1974 and received an honorable discharge. He was a Boiler Technician on the carrier vessel John F. Kennedy, Norfolk, VA.
He attended Haskell Indian college and SIPI in Albuquerque, NM participating in the graphic art program. He was employed at Marty Indian School as an Art Technician and loved working with children. He also sat on the MIS School Board.
Harold was a Lakota artist, singer of native songs, and storyteller. Harold had a great talent of recording Native life through his mediums of his art. He will be remembered as a Teacher of our Native Culture.

Jenkins/Brinkley, Tim Picotte and Tashina Dismounts Thrice; siblings: Perry Picotte, Pamela Picotte (deceased), Brenda Moran, Stephanie Gunhammer, Robert Picotte, Lakota Rose Canales Gabarrete (deceased), Gina O'Connor, Cora Flying Hawk (deceased), Richard Miller, Hunka Sister Connie Rodriguez and Paris Picotte.
