Irene Cahoy, 94, of Avon, SD

Irene died Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall, SD. Private services are being held.

Irene Marie Cahoy was born on October 23, 1929 in Avon, SD to Daniel and Margaret (Stoltz) Giedd. She passed away on January 9, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall, SD.

Irene married Emil Cahoy on November 5, 1946 and had 4 children: Rodney, Jean, Pam and Randy.

Throughout Irene's life she worked as a motel manager, elderly caretaker, and homemaker. She enjoyed watching baseball, reading, doing puzzles, and number games. She loved helping with baking treats and making crafts at the nursing home.

In 1969, she moved from Rapid City, just a few months prior to the big Rapid City flood and spent several decades in sunny southern California before returning to her roots in Avon back in 2003.

Irene is survived by daughters Jean (Dave) Boese of Yankton, SD, Pam (Jim) Toupal Avon, SD; son Randy (Sue) Cahoy of Mitchell, SD; grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Margaret Giedd; sister Velma Walker Kolb; brothers Melvin and Ervin Giedd; son Rodney Cahoy; and husband Emil Cahoy.
