Jacob Namminga, 92, of Springfield

Visitation is Thursday with the family present from 5 to 7 PM at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield. Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Emmanuel Reformed Church. Burial is in the Emmanuel Reformed Cemetery, rural Springfield, with Military Honors.

Jacob E. Namminga was born June 7, 1926 the sixth child of Jacob Sr. and Rena (Bruinsma) Namminga on a farm near Springfield, SD and passed away February 11, 2019 at the Springfield Assisted Living Center.
Jake attended Kirkwood country school, graduating from the 8th grade. He then worked on the family farm and also helped other farmers with harvesting and threshing. In April, 1945 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and in October, 1945 he sailed to Japan to serve in the Occupation Army. On December 24, 1946 he was honorably discharged and returned to Springfield.
After his military service, he attended Springfield College on the GI bill and received his electrician's license. On June 22, 1951 he married Harriet Dyk and they raised four daughters on various farms until moving to the farm where Jake grew up. They farmed and did many wiring jobs together until retiring in October, 1991. During their retirement years, they traveled and enjoyed many coffee times with relatives and friends.
Jake was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Reformed Church, Springfield where he served as a Deacon and on the cemetery board. He also was a member of the choir where he shared his love for music. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, harmonica and sometimes the accordion. He was also on the county Farm Bureau board and a member of the Dwight Wood American Legion Post 132. Jake was very proud of his military service. He will be remembered for his strong faith, gentle teasing, quick smile and boundless love of family.
Jacob is survived by his wife Harriet, daughters: Joanne (David) Hatle of Sioux Falls, Sharon (Alan) Egge of Yankton and Audrey (David) Gaspar of Flandreau; son-in-law Dennis Ward of Centerville; grandchildren: Michelle and Adam Nelson (Brynn, Cooper), Becky and Darren Larson (Major, Deacon), Kathy Ward (Isaac), Leah and Aaron Presley (Isaac) Adam and Rachel Hatle (Julia, Austin), Sara and Mark Hoebelheinrich (Rose, James), Alison and Joe Gerken (Charlie), Jonathan Egge and fiancé Ashli Maddox, Daniel and Leslie Gaspar (Jacob, Emmitt), Jesse and Jamie Gaspar (James, Jaelynn, Julianna, Joseph), Christina Gaspar, Ben and Amber Gaspar; sister Edith (Bill) Kuiper of CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Jacob was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Judy Ward, two infant children, brothers Steve, Henry, and Lawrence, and sisters Florence Peterson and Gertrude Ludens.
