Mar 13, 2009 — Aug 15, 2026
Springfield
James Lee Arnold II, 17
The family asks that you please respect their privacy at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
James Lee Arnold II, also known as “Jimmy” passed away at the tender age of 17 due to a severe asthma attack. He was born in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, NV, on March 13, 2009, and later relocating to Springfield, SD in 2021, where he acquired a love and appreciation for scenic views and calm nature.
James filled every room with his sharp wit, boundless kindness, and just enough stubborn determination to keep everyone on their toes which left an everlasting impression on all who knew him. James was the beloved son of Robert James Arnold and Jacquline Elaine Wynia, who were endlessly proud of their son’s accomplishments and the kind-hearted young man he had become. An accelerated student, and highly intelligent, James attended Bon Homme High School and then spent his Junior year at Vermillion High School where his brilliance shone through in every endeavor. His teachers and peers alike admired him for his intellect and quick wit, traits that complemented his determination and stubbornness—qualities that made him a force to be reckoned with. Outside of his academic pursuits, James nurtured a keen interest in photography, capturing the world with a perspective uniquely his own. He enjoyed long walks surrounded by nature, which allowed him space to self-reflect and just get lost in thought. He and his mother shared a favorite sentimental spot where they often spent quality Mother-Son time reminiscing in deep conversations at Apple Tree, by the Missouri River in Springfield, SD. Just like his mother, James also loved to be in the kitchen cooking, creating new dishes like he was “The Chef Master”. (But let me say, he could burn the house down cooking like a Sous Chef always cooking on high heat, but don’t tell him that!) His meals still looked beautiful, like an artist perfecting his masterpiece. He must have inherited that from his Mother too, collecting many action figures which James usually had lined up around his room and would make it a point to reposition them, showcasing more of his creative side. That he also shared with his brother-like cousin, Tristan. James was also pretty fond of building intricate Lego structures, something that stayed with him since he displayed interest at such a young age. His taste in music and desire to gain knowledge and experience is a reflection of both his Mother, Jacquline and Father, Robert, and the heart, soul, and devotion that went into raising their son. Although, not always publicly shown, the protective and nurturing side of James could be seen in the way he loved and cared for his three-year-old little brother, Kal El, with his creative play and goofy personality that allowed James to feel like a little kid at heart all over again. James brought joy and a touch of mischief into the lives of those around him. To his mother, he was not only a precious son but also her best friend, while to his father, he was a mirror image, a "clone" in both looks and demeanor. While his life was far too brief, James touched countless hearts with his kindness, intelligence, and boundless spirit. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the cherished memories he leaves behind.
A private vigil will be held in his honor. James will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing and his spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.
James is predeceased by his grandfather, Phillip Lee Arnold (3/7/2024) who lovingly welcomes his grandson.
He is survived by his mother: Jacquline Elaine (Travis) Wynia; brother: Kal El Wynia; step-sister: Marley Wynia; uncle: Marc Anthony Wager II; father: Robert James Arnold; aunt: Brook Arnold; cousins: Tristan Wilson and Hayleigh Cameron; and grandmother: Tina Arnold.
