James Bochman, 81, of Springfield
Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2018 at the United Church of Christ in Springfield from 12:30 until the funeral service at 2 PM. Burial is in the Springfield Cemetery, rural Springfield. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
James L. Bochman was born September 23, 1936 in rural Avon, SD, the son of Otto and Florence (Gardner) Bochman. He died Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall. Jim attained the age of 81 years, 11 months and 14 days.
Jim attended country grade school southeast of Avon. He graduated from Springfield High School.
Jim attended the Evangelical Church southeast of Avon as a boy. He later went to the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Avon. He served in the SD National Guard in Springfield.
Jim married Sheran Halsey in February of 1959 in Springfield at the UCC Church. Together they farmed northeast of Springfield, raising cattle and hogs. During their marriage they adopted two boys, Glen and Rollin. Sheran died on April 12, 1985. Jim married Shirley "Skip" Halsey on March 7, 2003.
Jim will be remembered for his love for his pigs, of building things, working with his hands and working the land. He was a very good welder and did so for many family, friends and neighbors. Jim loved helping people.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Skip of Springfield; son Glen of Springfield; daughter Theresa Rutgers of Marshall, MN; four grandchildren: Sherri Kaye, Catrina, Jonah and Chloe; seven great grandchildren; two brothers: Preston (Caroline) Bochman of Tyndall and Otto Jr. (Amy) Bochman of Rapid City; two sisters: Elsie (Eldon) DeWall of Freeport, IL and Darlene Duchen of Beaver Creek, OH; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Sheran, son Rollin, daughter-in-law Kathy, and his parents.
Memorials will be directed to the United Church of Christ in Springfield or the Good Samaritan Society of Tyndall.
