Janice Kay Schneider, 80, of Springfield

Funeral services will be 2 PM, Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield, SD. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Reformed Cemetery, rural Springfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. The service will be live-streamed on the Emmanuel Reformed Church Youtube page. Peters Funeral Chapel of Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

Janice Kay Schneider was born on February 22, 1944 in Wagner, SD to Elmer and Dorothy (Honomichl) Jones Sr. She passed away on September 7, 2024 at the Angelhaus in Yankton.

Janice graduated Avon High School in 1962. In 1963, Janice married Gerald DeJong at his parent's house. To this union two children were born: Russell and Bruce. Janice married the love of her life, Joe Schneider on September 13, 1979 in Yankton.

Janice worked at Lil's College Cafe. She owned the ELNO Motel for 13 years. In 1984, Janice and Joe bought the lumber yard in Springfield which they operated for 24 years. They retired and sold the lumber yard in 2009. Janice also milked cows for many years. She loved to sew and was a very good seamstress.

Janice is survived by granddaughter Danielle (Stephen) Crumley; daughter-in-law Becky Shepherd her children Michael and Madison of Loveland, CO; brothers: Elmer Jones of Springfield and Richard (Elaine) Jones of Springfield; sisters: Wanda (Mark) Gillen of White Lake; brother-in-law Dean (Linda) Schneider of Sioux Falls; sisters-in-law: Linda Jones of Springfield and Arlene (Gary) Denker of Spearfish; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends Steve (Carol) VandeKop of Yankton.

Janice was preceded in death by two sons: Russell and Bruce; husband Joe; parents; father and mother-in-law; and nephews: Bradley Jones and Eric Gillen.
