Janis Nedved, 90 , of Wagner died at the Scotland Good Samaritan Society, under hospice care on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial is in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Janis Maxine(Koupal) Nedved, daughter of Joseph T Koupal and Anna E(Slaba) Koupal, was born October 11, 1935, in Wagner SD.  She died at the Scotland Good Samaritan Society, under hospice care on January 6, 2026. Janis had attained the age of 90 years 2months and 6 days.

She married Wilbur J Nedved on October 28, 1952 at St John Catholic Church in Wagner. Two children were blessed to their union. After their marriage, they farmed for 10 years on the Nedved Homestead south of town and then moved into Wagner in 1962. Janis and Wilbur owned and operated the SawDust Trail Bar for ten years. They then were custodians for St John's Catholic Church and Commercial State Bank for 15 years, until retirement.

Janis continued with her sewing, needlework and quilting for many more years, along with working various part-time jobs in the community.

Janis was a devout life time member of St John Catholic Church and served on the October Band.

She will be remembered for her love of life, her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They were always first and foremost in her life.  She was also always eager to volunteer or help someone in need. She was voted as "Citizen of Year" for her generous and caring nature. Her sisters described Janis as " truly a 'big sister' her whole life to us". Despite the age differences, the three were exceptionaly close.

In her later years, Janis enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and visiting with friends and family. Janis, at 90 years old, crocheted over 100 beanie hats to donate to hospitals for children. Janis will be remembered for her faith in God, her laugh,  her generous nature, her natural ability to carry on a lively conversation, and mostly her unending love of her family.

Thankful for having shared her life with Wilbur for 63 years of marriage, her children Richard Nedved and wife Jodie, Regina and husband Wm Richard Dufur, all of Wagner. Four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her sisters JoAnn Sadler, Marlene Isburg and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Janis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents,  an infant brother Michael and many relatives and friends.
