Jerry Sorensen, 78, of Springfield
Visitation will be Monday, July 2, 2018 at Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield from 1:30 to 2:30, followed by funeral at 2:30. Burial is in the Bon Homme Cemetery, rural Springfield.
Jerry A. Sorensen was born November 25, 1939 in rural Irene, South Dakota the son of Vilas and Lucille (Goebel) Sorensen. He died June 28, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall.
Jerry graduated from Ravinia High School in 1957. He attended Huron College for one year and attended Southern State College in Springfield from 1961 to 1963, graduating with a BA degree in Electronics. He taught school in Pickstown from 1963 to 1964 and at Southern State from 1964 to 1965. Jerry earned his Masters Degree from the University of Illinois in 1966. He taught Electronics at USD/S from 1966 to 1984. He transferred to SDSU and taught within the Engineering Department from 1984 until he retired in 2000. Jerry also served as the Assistant Dean of Engineering at SDSU.
Jerry was united in marriage to Connie Musilek on Juy 5, 1958 at the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church.
Jerry was a member of the Jaycees, the Isaac Walton League and many professional organizations.
Jerry loved to fish and hunt, especially geese. He enjoyed spending time on the Missouri River and was president of the Pelican Patrol.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Connie Sorensen of Springfield; three daughters: Sandra (Kevin) Kalt of Warren, MN, Cindy (Blane) Nagel of Springfield, and Stephanie Sorensen of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a brother Merle (Marilee) Sorensen of Cody, WY; and a sister EllaMae (David) VanDusen of Norfolk, NE.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; son Roger; his in-laws and brother Roger "Butch" Sorensen.
