Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery, rural Springfield. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 at the church Sunday, with the family present. A 7 p.m. prayer service will follow. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home of Springfield is in charge of the arrangements.
Jessie Boersma, daughter of Peter and Dora (Vander Lei) Dykstra, was born September 15, 1922 on a farm near Running Water, SD. She died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Jessie attained the age of 94 years, four months and five days.
Jessie attended school at Running Water through the eighth grade. She spent her teen years assisting in several homes in the area and also as a nanny in Sioux City, IA.
Jessie married Cornelius "Casey" Boersma on September 21, 1943 at rural Springfield. They lived and farmed west of Springfield, near Perkins and cared for their children while of the farm. In 1985, they retired and moved into Springfield. Cornelius passed away January 1, 2002.
Jessie was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church of Springfield, making confession of her faith on September 25, 1940. She also was a member of Willing Workers and Guild.
Jessie enjoyed raising flowers and always had a large garden. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, doing embroidery work, traveling, walking and experiencing nature. She looked forward to visiting and having Sunday coffee times with family.
Thankful for having shared her life are her children: David (Marie) of Baltimore, MD, Carl (Amy) of Des Moines, IA, Jerry (Betty) Eagan, MN, Arden (Mary) LIndenhurst, IL, Donna (Cal) Ratzlaff of Avon and Nancy (Lawrence) Young of Yankton; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and one soon to arrive; two brothers: Jayson and Darwin, both of Avon; one sisters, Mabel Ludens of Sioux Falls; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband; two sons: Robert in infancy and Barry; son-in-law, Dan Ruppelt; three brothers: Andrew, Raymond and Donald; and three sisters: Annie Odens; Marie Vander Veen and Ruth Olivier.
