John P. Krcil, 92, of Wagner
John died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at St. Michael's Hospital in Tyndall. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial is in the church cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 5 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner. A Rosary/Wake service will be held at 7 PM Tuesday at the church.
John P. Krcil was born northeast of Tyndall, South Dakota on August 1,1915, the son of Anton and Mary (Bame) Krcil. He died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at St. Michael's Hospital in Tyndall, South Dakota. John attained the age of 92 years and 10 months.
The family moved southeast of Dante in Charles Mix County in 1920. John attended the Stichman School in Rouse Township. He worked on the family farm until August 1,1938, when he went to work for George Soukup. In 1939, John managed a cafe in Dante that his father owned.
John married Mary Honomichl on June 27,1939. They operated the cafe together until they started farming in March of 1940. They farmed southeast of Dante for two years before moving north of Wagner, where they farmed until they retired and moved into Wagner in 1996. John was known for his registered Belgium horses and Llamas.
John was a member of St John's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a board member of AARP and was in charge of starting the Senior Citizens in 1998. John was a charter member of the Charles Mix Historical Society and was president of the society when it became a museum.
Thankful for having shared his life are his two daughters: Janice Roeder of Fairfax and Mary Lou and husband Ron Deuschle of Yankton; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and two sisters: Mary Sternhagen of Tyndall and Leona Miller of New London, MN.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann on January 17, 2002; parents; one infant grandchild; one infant great grandchild; two sons-in-law; and two sisters: Rose Bartunek and Josie Honomichl.
