John died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner.
Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, Saturday, March 20. 2010 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Dante. Burial is in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, rural Dante. Visitation will be from noon until 5 PM on Friday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner. Rosary/Wake services will be 7 PM, Friday, at the church.

John E. Podzimek was born April 30, 1915, on the family homestead east of Dante, SD, the son of John J. and Mary (Sedlacek) Podzimek. He died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner. John attained the age of 94 years, 10 months and 16 days.

John married Leona Carda on November 10, 1941 at Vodnany, SD. Together they farmed and raised horses near Wagner. Nine children were born to their union. John entered the Good Samaritan Society in December of 2006.

John was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church in Dante, Catholic Workmen, the Board of Directors of Dante Farmers Union and the school board of Choteau Creek #9.

John will be remembered for his love of horses, playing cards, baseball, politics and visiting family and friends.

Thankful for having shared his life are eight children: Virginia Crowley of Wichita, KS, Richard and wife Fran Podzimek of Armour, Dorothy Holzbauer of Wagner, Mary and husband Lee Hochstein of Yankton, Alvin and wife Marcia Podzimek of Wagner, Joe Podzimek of Dante, Judy and husband Britt Bruner of Mitchell and Jim Podzimek of Ludlow; 30 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; one brother, Steve Podzimek of California; and two sisters: Clara Nedved of Yankton and Georgianne Pravecek of Scotland.

John was preceded in death by his wife Leona on March 12, 2001; an infant child in April of 1944; parents; son-in-law, Thomas Crowley; one brother, Louis Podzimek and sister, Mary Geldner.
