John Burns Swanson, 88, of Lake Andes
John Burns Swanson was born and raised on a farm near Dunnell, MN, the son of John and Amy (Peterson) Swanson. He died Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the Lake Andes Health Care Center in Lake Andes, SD.
John graduated from high school in Sherburn, MN. He attended Dunwoody Institute for one year in Minneapolis, MN. He worked for Firestone Tires in Albert Lea, MN and Fairmont, MN.
John married Delorus Peterson in 1941. They owned and operated an International Harvester dealership in Ceylon, MN. In 1955, they moved to Watertown, SD to be a salesman for Lindsey Bros, farm equipment until retirement in 1980. Delorus died in 1978 at age 55. John was remarried in 1979 to Hazel Krell in Huron, SD. John entered the Lake Andes Health Care Center in 2004.
John is survived by his wife Hazel of Rapid City, SD; children: Cindy Emmett of Clarkdale, AZ; Terry and husband Larry Schacht of Pickstown, SD; grandchildren: Heidi and husband Doug Cimpl of Dante, SD; Kirsten Schacht/Torres and husband Rudy of LaGrange, TX; Jill VanZee and husband Brian of Robinson, TX; TJ Schacht and wife Theresa of Lake Andes, SD; Caitlyn Emmett of Clarkdale, AZ; and nine great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
