Joseph D. "Chub" Rysavy, 73 of Wagner

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner, with burial in the parish cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 2 to 5 Monday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner, followed by a 7 p.m. rosary/wake service at the church.

Joseph Donald "Chub" Rysavy, Jr., son of Joseph and Dorothy (Walters) Rysavy, Sr., was born August 2, 1942 at Wagner. He died unexpectedly at his home Thursday, April 14, 2016. Chub attained the age of 73 years, eight months and 13 days.

Chub attended grade school in several country schools in Charles Mix County and graduated from Wagner High School in 1960. He served in the US Army and then in the National Guard for 20 years.

Chub married Carol Ann Eggers on July 13, 1964 in Luverne, MN. They made their home on a farm south of Wagner. Three children were blessed to their union. Carol died unexpectedly on July 27, 2012.

After Chub's "retirement" from farming in 1996, he worked for Honomichl Design in Wagner until he retired in 2012.

Chub was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner and a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus. He joined the Charles Mix Electric Association Board in 1986. Chub became the representative on the SDREA Board in 2007. He currently was serving on the SDREA Legislative Committee. Chub served as the vice president from 1989 to 2014 and was currently serving as president.

Chub will be remembered for his love of watching his grandkids in their softball and all other activies, driving his Razor, fishing, bowling and keeping in contact with his Facebook friends.

Thankful for having shared his life are his sons: Randy and wife Julie of Wagner and Russ and wife Pam of Rapid City; five grandchildren: Kyle Schnider of Yankton, John Rysavy of Corvallis, OR, Monte Rysavy of Vermillion, and Gabby and Jayda Rysavy of Rapid City; one great granddaughter, Elsie Schnider; two brothers: Robert and wife Brenda of Sioux Falls and Richard and wife Ann of Dante; many relatives and friends; and his cat, Punky.

Chub was preceded in death by his wife; infant daughter; parents; and parents-in-law.
