Josephine Van Duysen, 92 of rural Wagner
Visitation is at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner from 1 to 3 Monday, followed by a private committal service at the Emanuel Cemetery, rural Springfield, with Pastor Dave Reck officiating.
Josephine "Jose" Van Duysen, daughter of Cornelius "Casey" and Bessie (Boschma) Van Duysen, was born March 28, 1919 on a farm north of Avon, SD. Jose's family moved to the Dante area in 1931. She lived on this place all of her life and peacefully died there Saturday, June11, 2011. Jose attained the age of 92 years, two months and 15 days.
Jose received an eighth grade education at country schools near Avon and Dante. She had great sorrow in her early life, as her older brother, John died unexpectedly when he was 14 and she was 12. Jose helped to care for her Mother for many years.
Jose was a member of the Friedensberg Bible Church where she served on the service committee for many years and also played her guitar.
Jose was an outdoor person. She loved her horses, chickens and to garden. Jose also loved music, especially Country Gospel and Western cowboy songs. She and her sister, Rachel sang at many different places and occasions all over the area. Days before she went to be with her Lord, she sang some of her favorite songs: The Way of the Cross Leads Home, Soon and Very Soon, and No Not One.
Thankful for having shared her life are her brother Frances "Fritz" and wife Danelda and her sister Rachel, all of rural Wagner; nephews: Murlen and wife Sandy, and Mark and wife Joanie, niece -in-law, Lori, all of rural Wagner; great nieces and nephews: Travis and wife Jen, Tyler, Jackie Beeson and husband Travis, Jody Foxhoven and husband Brock, and Jason and wife Jackie, Sharla, Mike and wife Brianna, Melissa, Marshall and Morgan; great-great nieces and nephews: Tayler and Dodge Van Duysen, Summer, Shada and Jaylen Beeson, Tuff, Ellie and Maci Foxhoven, and Casey and Kendra Van Duysen; and relatives and friends.
Jose was preceded in death by her parents; brother John, nephew Mike, and great nephew Casey.
